Should You Start a Career Or Enter University At 18?
It is very important for a school- leaver to make the right choice of a profession. After finishing high school most young people enter universities, but only a few of them start a career.
There are some pros and cons of both choices.
One positive aspect of studying at University is that it gives you a better chance in finding a decent job .Moreover, you won’ t be able to make a career without good qualifications. As the research shows, the University graduates can earn more money than non-graduates. Furthermore, you can find a job while studying at University. One more thing, you can develop key skills which will help you succeed whatever career you choose. Working in a team, giving presentations, writing essays, managing your time effectively are the skills which will be necessary for any profession. Also, you can meet new people and make friends with them.
However, if you want to enter University, you must have a good knowledge of the basic subjects and do well in your tests. What is more, there are universities where tuition fees are high and it may be very expensive for the parents to pay them. Taking a student loan out will help you pay your tuition fees.
On the other hand, starting a career at 18 is an opportunity for gaining experience. Besides, work experience is a good way of finding out what you want. In addition , you will have a chance of earning your living and it will give you a feeling of independence. The negative thing about this choice is that you might not be qualified enough for a highly paid job. Some people argue that having a degree is not a guarantee of a brilliant career. As far as we know, many famous people like Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple, Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook didn’t graduate from college, but they made successful careers.
All in all, it is up to you to make up your mind whether to start a career or to continue studying at University. If you are not ready to choose a career after leaving school, you may take a gap year. It will help you to consider what you want to do in future. Apart from this, you may talk about your career choices with your parents.
Taking into consideration all advantages and disadvantages of both choices, you have to make your own decision and find your way in life. As Steve Jobs said
