Russian School of Mathematics
RSM or the Russian school of Mathematics/math is an after-school program for k-12 students who want to improve their Mathematics skills. This program is available in 11 states, and it’s taught in a virtual classroom, making it possible to even enroll during the COVID-19 pandemic.
About the Russian School of Mathematics program
The RSM program was featured in the Atlantic magazine and the NPR as one of the key players in the math revolution. It was also ranked as one of the best schools by JKC for Talented youth. The purpose of the program is to help students of all levels build a good mathematic foundation and trigger their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The communities where this program serves include Weston, Brookline, Wellesley, Boston, Needham, Sharon, and West Roxbury.
A variety of RSM programs are available depending on students of different age groups such as elementary, middle school, and high school students. Each program has three tiers: accelerated level, advanced level, and honors level.
RSM also prepares students for national and international math Olympiads. The teachers make sure students are placed in such an environment that’s best suited for them and they learn properly.
How Does it Benefit Students?
If your child always has a hard time understanding math or they need help with refining their math foundation, the RSM is the best program to get all the basics right. The program guides students to derive new concepts based on what they have learned before. Unlike other programs, the goal isn’t to make the students memorize the concepts; rather make them understand them.
Students are encouraged to analyze and think. They get to discover solutions and reflect on how they have reached those solutions. With this approach, the students, when faced with a novel problem don’t run away from it, rather, they come up with ways to tackle it.
Teachers of the Program
The teachers who teach the program all have a degree in either mathematics or any related field. Most important of all, the teachers selected to teach this program love mathematics. Hence, they are always engaged with the course and by the end of the course, they make the students fall in love with math, too.
RSM is designed by experts who have strong experience and academic background in mathematics. This has enabled this program to be one of a kind. The teaching methods used are tried and tested as well.
Who is the RSM Program For?
After taking the program, many students feel their mind is empowered. If you want to get into a top university, exceed in a career, or excel in a test, Math is the only subject that would get you there. Therefore, this program is for anyone who wants to get better at Mathematics and understand it rather than memorizing it.
Once you have successfully completed your course, you will spark advanced reasoning within you and you will develop an appetite for challenges. The students might even develop a new appreciation for math.
