Eat To Live or Live To Eat
There has been a trend towards a healthy lifestyle in the past two or three decades. However, there is still a lot of debate about which style of life is likely to help you live longer. There are several things you can do to stay healthy.
Speaking about health we must remember that food is one of the main things which our body needs .Nowadays doctors are worried by the increasing rate of overweight children and adults. This serious health problem is caused by the consumption of unhealthy food. It increases the risk of developing heart diseases, hypertension, diabetes and even cancer. That’s why people become more and more concerned about following a healthy diet.
First of all, one should eat a balanced diet. All foods contain nutrients. There are six important kinds of nutrients: carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and water. Carbohydrates and fats give us energy. Bread, rice, cereals, pasta, beans, peas and potatoes are good energy foods. Fats are contained in butter, oil, lard, nuts, milk and cheese, fish. Protein foods build the body. Meat, fish, eggs and nuts are rich in protein.
It is important to get the right balance of vitamins in your diet. For example, vitamin A which we get from eggs, milk, fruit and green vegetables, is necessary for our growth and healthy skin and eyes. We need vitamin C for our bones and muscles. We can get it from vegetables and fruit.
Food also provides us with lots of important minerals-calcium and iron, for example. Cereals and cheese are an excellent source of calcium which is essential for building healthy teeth and bones. Iron which is found in liver, meat, fish, cereals and green vegetables, helps to give us healthy blood.
As it is recommended by nutritionists we need to eat these foods every day:
- firstly, four servings of bread, cereals or noodles and rice;
- secondly, two servings of meat or fish, or nuts, peanut butter, cheese, eggs, beans or peas;
- thirdly, four servings of milk ,cheese, or ice-cream;
- fourthly, four servings of vegetables and fruit, including one citrus fruit and one dark green vegetable.
If you eat these foods every day, you’ll look great and feel wonderful.
If you want to increase your chances of staying healthy, reduce the amount of fat in your diet. Your dietary fat should not exceed 60 grams. Too much fat can make you overweight and lead to heart problems. Eating olive oil actually lowers your level of blood cholesterol. They say that lard is a very useful product.
It is highly recommended to avoid fast food as it is high in saturated fat. It would do you no harm to cut back on fatty, fried foods such as crisps and chips, and eat more fruit and vegetables. You should limit the amount of sweets, cakes and chocolate you eat. If you want to lose weight, eat smaller servings.
All in all, follow this golden rule of good health -”Don’t live for eating, but eat for living”.
